Caderno mixes the functionality of a Notepad-like basic text editor with the look and feel of Mozilla’s Firefox browser. With specific features aimed at Web programmers, this free text editor can actually be used and enjoyed by anyone bored with the minimalist layout of Notepad (and the like) and tired of finding their way through all the unnecessary extra functionality of full-featured text editors.
Caderno’s layout allows you to have more than one document open simultaneously. They appear neatly organized in individual tabs, just like web pages in a browser, and you can move information from one to the next simply by copying and pasting the desired sections. Together with most basic editing features, you will also find a search functionality that looks (and works) very much like the search feature in Firefox. As a bonus for web programmers, Caderno pays special attention to the way HTML, CSS, XML, INI, PHP, and Java documents are displayed. It offers you a different syntax pattern for each type of Web-based document, a pattern that can be easily customized using its Syntax Manager.
Finally, it is important to note that Caderno can also organize your working documents in “sessions”. These sessions can be created at any time – all you have to do is give them a name. They will keep track of the tabs and documents active, their version, and the date the session was last saved. These sessions can be listed and re-open at any time using the Session Manager, which will allow you to resume your work exactly where (and how) you left it. This is truly a major improvement when compared to the basic functionality offered by similar note-takers. However, it is the improvements performed in the interface side that take the share of the lion.
